What is Ultimate?

Ultimate Frisbee, often just called "Ultimate," is a team sport played with a flying disc or Frisbee. It combines elements from soccer, basketball, and football. Here's a basic rundown:

1. Teams and Objective: The game is typically played between two teams of seven players each. The objective is to score points by catching the disc in the opposing team's end zone, similar to scoring a touchdown in football or a goal in soccer.

2. Gameplay: Players advance the disc by passing it to teammates. They cannot run while holding the disc; they must establish a pivot foot and pass it to a teammate. The opposing team tries to prevent successful passes and to intercept or knock down the disc.

3. Turnovers: If the disc is dropped, intercepted, or thrown out of bounds, possession switches to the other team.

4. Substitutions: Players can substitute in and out during stoppages in play, such as after a point is scored or an injury timeout.

5. Spirit of the Game: Ultimate emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play. There are no referees in most levels of play; instead, players are expected to self-officiate and resolve disputes on the field, following a principle known as the "Spirit of the Game."

6. Scoring: Points are scored by catching the disc in the opposing team’s end zone. Games are typically played to a certain number of points or within a time limit.

Ultimate is known for its fast pace, strategic play, and the emphasis on respect and fair play, which makes it unique among team sports.
